The HK Prize and Other Awards

The Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Prize (STIP) is a merit-based award to recognise the exceptional scientific or technological innovations and their translation into practice with real economic and societal value. The HK Prize is open to individuals and research-related institutions residing in Hong Kong, Macau or Guangdong and conducting scientific or technological research in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics; Life and Health; New Materials and Energy; and Advanced Manufacturing.

The HK Prize will provide a monetary award of up to HK$100,000 to the winning team. This sum will be used to further support their research work and facilitate their engagement with mainland China and the wider region. In addition, the HK Prize winners will gain priority enrollment into SHKS-sponsored seminars with opportunities to present at such events; and have access to exclusive resources.

Each year, the HK Prize seeks to reward young people who have exhibited outstanding academic results and leadership potential in different disciplines. They will receive cash prizes, study scholarships and other perks in their respective fields of endeavour. The Prize aims to encourage young people to develop their full potential in education, build up a solid reputation and achieve great success in their future career paths.

Among this year’s hk prize nominees, some have been fighting for freedom and democracy – even when they are arrested or jailed for their efforts. Others have dedicated their time and effort to social justice and community services – for instance, running a homeless shelter or providing financial assistance to those in need. Their inspiring stories show how the human spirit triumphs in spite of difficulties.

The hk prize also recognises the achievements of world-class athletes. This year, gold medallists in the HK Prize for Sports will receive a monetary award of up to hk$12 million, while silver and bronze medallists will be awarded a total of HK$6 and HK$3 million respectively.

A renowned classical music ensemble, the HK Phil, has also made history by becoming the first Asian orchestra to win the Gramophone Classical Music Awards in 2023. The prestigious award ceremony, dubbed the “Oscars of classical music”, was held in London last October. The HK Phil was honoured for their outstanding live recordings of the Wagner’s complete Ring Cycle on the Naxos label.

Another hk prize was handed out at the Hong Kong News Awards on Friday. Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu told journalists that Hong Kong’s media industry plays a crucial role in helping society explore the fresh opportunities brought by the city’s new stage of development and the high-quality growth of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He encouraged the media to continue reporting good news to the public.
